Marks of a Disciple: Part 7

August 17, 2008

DBC Family,

This Sunday night we’ll be closing out our seven-part series on Marks of a Disciple. Thus far in this series we’ve studied the following characteristics that Jesus said would mark a true follower of His…

  • A Supreme & Incomparable Love for Him (Matthew 10:34-37 / Luke 14:26)
  • An Abiding Devotion to His Word (John 8:31)
  • A Denial of Self as the Focus of Life (Mark 8:34 / Luke 9:23)
  • A Daily Life of Submission to the Cross (Mark 8:34 / Galatians 2:20)
  • An Allegiance to His Compelling Leadership (Mark 8:34 / Luke 9:57-62)
  • A Relinquishment to the Rights of Our Possessions (Luke 14:33 / 18:18-25)

This week we’ll spend our time in John 13:34-35 where Jesus tells us that a true disciple of His is one who Reflects His Love to the World. This is a great passage that deals with our love for one another as a witness to an unbelieving culture.

Take some time this week and chew on that passage. Ask yourself, what does it mean to truly love one another as brothers and sisters in Christ? Parallel that passage with John 17:20-21 and ask yourself, what are the evangelistic implications of a church in one town, one nation, or all across the earth- when they are unified in the model of love that Christ provided?

We have a lot to consider this week. I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday night!

God Bless,

Shea
