Why a Series on Gender Roles?
We understand that the Church has been established by Christ as the “pillar and support of the truth” (I Tim. 3:15). As such we have been given a divine mandate to speak with courage and with clarity on the great moral issues of our day.
One issue in particular that has burdened our hearts is the increasing confusion even among Christians on the roles and responsibilities of men and women in the home and in the Church:
- Is it biblically permissible for a Woman to be a senior Pastor?
- What does the Bible mean when it describes the man as the head of the wife?
- Are men and women truly equal if some roles in the home and in the church are reserved exclusively for men?
- Aren’t some Biblical passages that place limits on where women can serve culturally limited and therefore do not apply in our modern times?
To this end Denton Bible Church has planned a three-week sermon series focusing on what the Bible has to say about Gender roles.
What We Believe
We believe that the Bible affirms a complementary understanding of male and female roles in the home and in the Church;
We believe further that while men and women are equal in their persons and in their standing before God the Bible establishes an enduring distinction of roles that is grounded in the original creation of Man and Woman;
We believe further that the man has been given the responsibility of primary leadership in the home and that senior leadership roles in the Church are also reserved exclusively for men;
We believe further that fidelity to these divine distinctives cannot be compromised without dire consequences for the home and the Church.
